Who we are

Welcome to The Coastal Trail

The Coastal Trail is a project managed and lead by Matakana Coast Trail Trust, a group of highly skilled, committed volunteers that are passionate about making this project a reality.

Our vision is to create a world class recreation and adventure trail that sustainably connects our coastal communities in the presence of the ocean Te Moananui-ā-Toi (the Hauraki Gulf). From Puhoi in the south, via the Matakana Coast to Mangawhai in the north.

This will be a trail of national significance, covering over 100kms, that offers walking, cycling and mountain biking paths for residents, visitors and tourists.

Trail network

Puhoi to Mangawhai

Given the ambitious nature of this project, development has been divided into stages, with Stage 1, Warkworth to Snells Beach to Matakana, currently our main focus.

We are actively collaborating with private landowners, Auckland Council, Auckland Transport, NZTA, Department of Conservation, the NZ Walking Access Commission and Rodney Local Board to coordinate trail development.
